The Bain of Nerds Everywhere
Well summer is half and over and we've found ourselves knee deep in summer blockbusters. This week we thought we pay tribute to one of our least favorite aspects of movie making, "The Sequel". Now, while it would be easy to rattle off a handful of horrid sequels, we, instead, opted to rank our least favorite kinds of sequels and some examples for each. Many of these listings are open ended so feel free to suggest the many that we missed. Life is way too short to even have seen half of these mo...

I've got a lot of movies. And if I have the first usually have the sequels or prequels of those movies as well. The never Ending story? Had 3 movies, the first was ok, second not so much, and the third had Jack Black.
Did you know there was a sequel to Robocop? There was also a third Major League. If you thought the second was bad, then you probably didn't see the third. By then they were down to Scott Bacula as the star.
There were also 3 Ninja Turtles movies, but they all ruled!
I love you but, you were wrong on a number of things:
1. There were 2 sequels to Robocop. 2. There are 4 Ninja Turtle Movies. 3. Ninja Turtles 3 was not good. There is no possible way that anyone could argue that it was.
On a side note, Ghostbusters comes out soon for 360 and it is penned by fucking Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd and they got the cast back to do voices! The WHOLE cast, including Annie Potts! I don't have a 360 yet but, goddamnit if I HAVE to own one for this fucking game.
Lord of Rings Two Towers and Return of the king can be considered sequels, more like a continuation of the story. Why they are making two movies out of the Hobbit baffles me? Greed is good, I guess.
Good sequel Matrix Reloaded, shitty sequel Matrix Revolutions.

Thanks for the shout out in your profile. I've done a few of those things. Won't say which though.
Anyone out there have a movie franchise you're hopelesslly devoted to? I'll admit that I'll go see every X-Men sequel they want to make on opening weekend. Same with the Terminator movies.

I'll let everyone in on a secret, I was joking about a few things.
The turtles movies, I like the first two, didn't see the third, and was not aware of the fourth.
Never watched the second or third robocop either.
and there were only 12 of the land before time movies. I was trying to get someone to call that so we could make fun of them for watching a cartoon movie that spawned 11 copies of itself.
And Ramis is a god. Evil Dead anyone??
Sorry Mr B. I'll see you after school. I still have my uniform.

1. I love how Rick & Jim started this off with "this week". Like there has been an article last week or the week before or the week before that....but seriously, good stuff dicks. thanks for coming back. 2. Balls- Agreed with x-men and I'll add Austin Powers. I will see everyone they make. 3. I think I might like Young Guns II better than the original, but that is the only one. 4. Return to OZ with Faruza Balk is horrendous and creepy. 5. I always wanted to market ridiculous sequels like, "titanic: Scrapin the bottom" or "Romeo & Juliet: Death Can't stop this". but after I saw they made a sequel to Terms of endearment, I abandoned that idea.
As a 12 year old, I watched Evil Dead II, A Clockwork Orange, Goodfellas and The Warriors as well as whatever Ninja movie rental I had that weekend non stop.* I'm with you on Evil Dead II, and I'll add I've seen Army of Darkness but have never bothered to watch Evil Dead.
Random thoughts - Halloween III was the absolute worst. Break'n and Break'n II are not the only movies to hit the linoleum square phase - Helloooo Beat Street, anyone? Although I think the prequels are lame, I'll watch every Star Wars they ever make.
*Really these movies were in the VCR and I hit play whenever I heard anyone coming around. Otherwise it was Skinemax the whole time.
I forgot to ask, did you like Young Guns II more by a wide margin? I thought they were both great, but I think I'll take the original if I have to choose. Are you being swayed by Bon Jovi?
Hey Dawg.... Did you see the size of that chicken?
Somehow, this always comes up in conversation...we all know that any movie made from a book suffers by comparison; anyone know any movies that were actually better than the book? The only one I can ever come up with is LA Confidential: the movie had a great air of mystery and suspense, the book gave away the bad guy in the first 20 pages.
Also, Tera Patrick: Confidential ...movie was better than the book.

The scene when Doc says "lets finish the game" and goes out in a bullet storm to save the gang....i am actually getting chills just thinking of it now. I don't know what it is, but I fucking bawl my eyes out every single times its on. Emilio gets on my nerve in it, but there is just something about it.
But thye original is phenomenal. Dirty Steve, possibly the greatest character ever.
Musclecock- Fight Club the movie was better than the book. That is the only one.
well...Angela's Ashes was pretty spot on with the book, but you guys aren't gay so we can't discuss that.
Also, how much you guys want to bet that son of bitch Patrick is golfing today?
weird. It was almost a little off-putting to have a real article up today. I paused before reading it, wondering if I'd been missing something for the last 8 months. Then I thought they'd probably just taken an old ultimate 11 and thrown it on the front page - slimy trick indeed. But this, this was well thought out - like someone actually sat down and tried to put together a humorous list. Strange days are upon us at TPP.
best sequel - superman 3.
worst sequel - Crow sequels - let's just do all we can to cash in on the cult following caused by the son of guy who died while making a movie, dying while making a movie. Do you think his family might be entitled to some of the residuals on that series? If your last name is Lee, call me, we'll see about putting a case together.
That picture of Lucas is fucking revolting. I love it when disgusting fatass dudes decide a beard will fix things. Lucas is also a board member of the Hall of Overrated.
Conan the Barbarian is excellent, I'm sorry but it is. Hystercial plot, script, directing, and performances. Everyone rent it. I wonder the odds you could've gotten on Conan becoming a governor. Wow.
Christine, please put the Mapplethorpe pic back up.
Last night, I made out with a brunette that had sleeves of tattoos. What the fuck. We are at her place, she says I'm not her type (no shit) and I ask why she mugs down then takes me to her place. "You bought my drinks, you obviously like me."
You can't argue with that shit. Lisa, get down here and you all can dance together on my coffee table for me and CJ. Hot.
Josh Hamilton at the plate .........GONE. Rangers win! Rangers win! Fuck you Angels and your spic owner. MVP! MVP! MVP! MVP!
Hamilton-the Balls of MLB. Remains great despite drug abuse.
You know I love your stuff, but movie better than the book...........hmm that's tough.......let me think...............................THE GODFATHER!!!!!!!!!!!!
