I have been lucky enough to work on some pretty cool projects: this site, some movies, television shows, etc. But, it's rare that I get to conceive and execute something as much as fun this music video was.
A friend of mine, Tim Shiles, is in a hip-hop group called Tunnel Runners Deep with some mutual friends, and about a year ago they sent me their new CD, "Compound Cuts". I gave it a listen, and being a fan of hip-hop music in general, I really enjoyed it. There was one song that I couldn't stop listening to- "La La Land". It wasn't because I liked it more than the other songs. It was because I had this idea for a music video that would be perfect for it.
Anyway, I finally said to myself, "if I don't go home and start working on this, I'll never do it. And that would be a shame." So that's what I did. For six weeks I animated this video without mentioning it to anyone. And then when I was done, I sent it back to Tim and the guys in Tunnel Runners Deep.
We ended up shooting some live action footage to cut into the animation, and Justin Harvey did a remix specifically for the video. I think the final result is pretty fucking sweet.
I figured I'd share it with the readers here first. I know it's not really a comedy piece (although I think there is some funny shit in there), but for anyone who played some NES growing up, it's a lot of fun. It's also an opportunity for us to test out video content on the site.
One of the things we are working on adding to the site in the future is video content. So, certainly let us know what you think of this video, and if you have any suggestions about how you'd like to see us deliver comedy sketches in the future, don't be shy.
