 | | I Don't Like Being Pandered To | Hi Mike. Thanks for the e-mail. I didn’t know Netflix could let other people look at your queue. Of course, I’m happy to let you see what I’m renting, but before I do, I think a few words of explanation are in order, lest you lose respect for me.
First, you’ll notice that nearly half of my current selections are Star Trek-oriented. There are a few reasons for this. For one thing, the fifth season of Deep Space Nine came on during my Freshman year of college, so obviously I had other things on my mind at that time. I’ve managed to see some of them in re-runs, but it’s been haphazard and they’re not always in sequence, which can be disorienting (Odo has his shape-shifting abilities, then he doesn’t, then he does, etc.).
As for all the Voyager stuff, here’s the story- My Sophomore year I fell in love with this girl, and one of the things we bonded over was our shared fondness for Star Trek. Then, she spent a semester abroad and met another fellow that she liked better than me. She shared a number of qualities with B’Lanna Torres, so Voyager held a lot of unpleasant associations and became tortuous to watch. Well, more tortuous anyway. Luckily, enough time has passed and new emotional scars have taken the place of the old ones, so I’m comfortable going back to catch up with what I missed. I guess my point is that I didn’t want you to think I'm one of those fanboys who gets all worked up over Seven of Nine and that’s why I’m renting the seasons with her in them. In fact, she kind of makes me uncomfortable.
Near the top of my queue, you’ll see “Adaption” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”. I know I’d told you I’d already seen these, but that was a lie. I realize I could have put them right at the top of my list and probably would have gotten them before you had the chance to look, but that would have delayed me getting “Doctor Who: The Armageddon Factor”, and I really want to know how the Key to Time storyline ends.
A few other notes: “Striptease”- This movie has Pandora Peaks in it, and I want to see if there are any parts with her that they didn’t show on TBS. Plus, you know…Burt.
“The Brak Show, Vol.1 Disc 2”- Rented it once, couldn’t find the commentary tracks, so I’m trying again.
 | | 1 of the Reasons I'm A Pacifist | “Apocalypse Now”- Yes, I’ll admit I’ve never seen it. By all rights, I should surrender my claim to being a serious movie buff. But, I know for a fact that you’ve never seen “The Graduate”, and it’s not in your queue, so don’t give me any shit.
“Greg the Bunny, the Complete Series”- Hey c’mon! Seth Green, Sarah Silverman, and Eugene Fucking Levy, all right? Don’t judge me.
“September”, “Another Woman”, “Alice”- These are the last three Woody Allen movies I haven’t seen. I can’t figure out of that’s an accomplishment or not.
“Rosemary’s Baby”, “The Heartbreak Kid”- Grodin. Apparently “The Incredible Shrinking Woman” is not available.
 | | I Do Like Strong Women, Though | “G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Season 2, Part 1 Disc 3”- Yeah, I know season 2 sucked, but this disc has the episode “Million Dollar Medic”, plus an interview with the guy who played Dial-Tone. I have to see that.
“Wonder Woman Season 1, Disc 1”- I can’t rationalize this. I just think Lynda Carter is really pretty.
So that’s why my queue looks like it does. I hope this doesn’t tarnish my reputation as an erudite person with sophisticated tastes. I’ll talk to you later. Right now I have to write Charlie at the Phat Phree an e-mail thanking him for running my Boy Meets World article.
