They say that “hindsight is 20/20”. They say to “learn from your mistakes”. They say a lot of things. I could sit here and “shoulda coulda woulda” for hours and nothing would change. Even so, there are some things that I look back on that I wish I hadn’t done. Things I wish were different. Of all these things, my failure to take Daniel Larusso out of commission in the All Valley Under-18 Karate Tournament hurts the most. Not only was I disqualified, but I also failed. He was in commission in his match against Johnny, and for that I take full responsibility.
Now those of you who know me realize that even though I run with the Cobra Kais, I am not just another goon. No, unlike Jimmy the black kid and the fat ogre who gets kicked in the stomach in the tournament, I am talented and sensitive. My karate is a product of long hours of training and dedication. Last year, I finished a close second to Johnny in the tournament. I know that with my skills, I could easily have buried Daniel Larusso, fair and square. Instead, I tried to take him out of commission. This was ill-advised.
There are many ways to take someone out of commission, and I have to say, we tried them all. The fight at the beach should have taken Daniel out of commission after Johnny’s backhand slap to the face. I beat him up on the soccer field. We even pushed him off a cliff. A cliff! And on Halloween, come on, that was a serious beating. I mean, even if it didn’t mean squat to Dutch, Daniel could hardly stand; he’d had enough. Unfortunately, none of these tactics were successful in our attempts at removing Daniel from his status as in-commission.
Maybe the problem wasn’t in failing to take Daniel out of commission. Maybe it was just the length of time for which he was out (of commission). I mean, when I kicked him in the leg, that should have ended his tournament right there. Unfortunately, he was only out of commission for five minutes. Those five minutes proved long enough for him to recover, and long enough to gain the inspiration and courage to defeat Johnny.
Attempting to take him out of commission.
Aw who am I kidding? I can’t make excuses anymore. I should have never even tried in the first place.
By “tried”, I am referring to when I tried to take him out of commission.
In the end, I guess it’s all of our fault. We had plenty of opportunities to finish him. For example, during “take-a-worm-for-a-walk-week”, we could have easily ignored Sensei’s instruction and beaten him senseless behind the school gymnasium. Or we could have pummeled him with putters at Golf ‘n Stuff. So what if we get punished? Fifty pushups on our knuckles? That’s cake. All in all, we failed in our ultimate goal.
If I hadn’t tried to take Daniel out of commission, I could have beaten him fairly. I know I could have. But when Sensei says “jump”, you say “how high?” But there I go again, trying to blame my inability to take him out of commission on other people. I should just shut my mouth and forget about it. We all should. But things will never be like they were in the good old days.
I feel the worst for Johnny. He just hasn’t been the same since he failed to put Daniel in a body bag.
...Am i the only one tired of reading about the Cabra Kai and lame-ass Karate Kid?

Here comes the onslaught of inane comments. The kind people who enjoy visiting these online writing collectives and stabbing each article with surgeon's gloves, disregarding the true spirit in which they are written.
So party-poopers, for each time the word commission shows up in this article, I spit on your grave.

...is being a wuss after putting Daniel LaRusso out of "temporary" commission by apolgizing profusely. How many knuckle pushups did that deserve from Sensei? You did what you had to do. Live with it.
By the way, you also should regret not taking a run at Alli (with an I). She turned out to pretty hot.

This article was great. you can NEVER get enough Karate Kid references (unless it's 2, 3 or the one with Hillary Swank).
The Cobra Kai were week. Guess that's what you get with a bunch of jokers from the west coast.
The best is the shocked look on Dutch's face when he lost to Lorusso in the quarterfinals. And what happens if all the Cobra Kai keep winning? Do they decide beforehand who wins the match, setting up Johnny for a repeat, or is it a free for all? I feel like the Sensei would have told those guys to lose to Johnny.

those are valid points about karate kid. however, karate kid 3 is a good movie. It features Karate's Bad Boy Mike Barnes, as well as Snake, who is the guy to be bad with if you want to be bad in L.A. dutch makes an incredible face after being beaten by "danielle", youre right. It turns out that Daniel was not "dead meat" after all.
I have also wondered what would happen if Bobby had to fight Johnny. I think it says somewhere that the year before was an all Cobra-Kai final. But Johnny is the alpha male; he would have beaten Bobby even if Bobby hadnt tried to take Daniel O.O.C.
Thanks bye.
