MADISON, WI (UPI)- Madison-based Guns N’ Roses tribute band Rocket Queen announced that they would no longer be working with each other, citing uncreative differences.
The act has been together since 1999, having formed out of the two previous cover bands “Crazy Train” and “Almost Van Halen”. The less-than-supergroup that resulted in the union has been performing throughout the Greater Madison area for the past six years.
End Of An Era?
“We were just all going in different directions as a band,” lamented Rocket Queen bassist Don Macelravey, who looks nothing like Duff McKagan. “Steve (“Not Axl” Nemet) and John (“Not Slash” Labenz) were always arguing about which GNR era to cover, with Steve wanting to concentrate on vocal-heavy stuff from “Lies”, and John all about “Use Your Illusion II”. It got pretty ugly sometimes.”
The two remaining scheduled Rocket Queen shows have been canceled. If fans pre-purchased tickets to this Friday’s show at Mayhall’s Bowling Alley in Arbor Hills, or next Saturday’s show at Whiskey Business Sports Bar in Greenbush, they can receive a full refund at point of purchase.
The curtain is not yet completely closed on Rocket Queen. Nemet, who maintains the rights to the band’s name and ownership of their van, says the group might carry on with replacement musicians. “I know some other dudes who are dying to be a part of my vision,” boasted Nemet, “And once Axl finishes “Chinese Democracy” we’ll have that much more awesome music to choose from”.

I actually went to see a GnR tribute band (not cover band – they dress like them) & turned out I met some chicks who knew the band & they invited me to their “after party”. It was fuckin’ hysterical. The Slash guy was all drunk opening up telling people how he didn’t like JD but drank it b/c that was part of “his thing” being Slash.
All the chicks had big hair (& it wasn’t done as a goof for the show, this was their real hair). These folks were actually a pretty good band but pretty lame people.
And yes, this did happen in Jersey.

Funny stuff written by BQ (below); however, it is curious that you were at a party with such idiots.
I saw a U2 tribue band recently called 2U. They sounded great but the Bono equivalent tried to talk with an irish accent even while he was just milling around the bar. Truly hilarious.
